It’s a bigger problem that than media has revealed.
What is Human Trafficking?
Human Trafficking is defined as forcing, fooling, or frightening
someone into performing labor or sex acts for profit.
Reports of human trafficking jumped by 35% in the last year! The situations that sex trafficking victims face vary dramatically. Many victims become romantically involved with someone who then forces or manipulates them into prostitution. Others are lured in with false promises of a job, such as modeling or dancing. Some are forced to sell sex by their parents or other family members. They may be involved in a trafficking situation for a few days or weeks, or may remain in the same trafficking situation for years.
PROJECT NO REST
Here is a good example of a program created to combat this growing travesty. Project No Rest is a statewide project to increase awareness and prevention around human trafficking and how it affects our children and young people as well as labor trafficking which affects all vulnerable individuals in North Carolina. Partnering with The UNC School of Social Work, the goal is to shine a light into the shadow that is human trafficking and reduce the number of youth trafficked while improving the lives of those affected by trafficking.
